In the mid 1950's our Father Roger Chambers joined the firm as a mechanic and his presence soon enhanced the already good name of the business.
During the late 1950's - early 1960's the company started to deal with Puch cycles and mopeds, which lead us into all aspects of mopeds and small motorcycles. It was at this time we started to deal with Honda machines, and although we didn't become a direct dealership until a few years later, we sold new Honda's through our shop.
It was at about this time that the company moved from under the railway arch to 19 High Street, Rochester. This increase in area allowed the growth of the powered side of the business, and in the late 1960's we became a recognised Honda dealership as well as a Puch cycle and motorcycle shop. Puch became a very large part of the business, and we became distributors for the marque for the south east of England.
Following these success' "CHAMBERS OF ROCHESTER LIMITED" was formed out of Len Chambers Cycles on 2nd December 1968.
In 1973 Len Chambers resigned as Managing Director of the company to allow Roger Chambers to assume this role, which he did until his sudden death on the 28th April 2000. During his time however the whole direction of the company altered, with cycles and Puch being dropped in favour of Honda mopeds and motorcycles as well as moving from 19 High Street Rochester to George Lane, less than 50 yards from where it all started. We have also been a solus Honda dealership for some 25 years now.
Neil and Andy chambers continued in the family tradition and became the third generation of the Chambers family to run the business.
In March 2004 Neil and Andy Chambers opened a new state of the art store in the Loose Road, Maidstone, and Chambers Motorcycles Limited was born.
An unfortunate sequence of events following a dispute within the Chambers family lead to the closure of Chambers of Rochester limited, and after serving the Medway community for over 65 years there was no longer a chambers business in Rochester.
Chambers Motorcycles Limited, in the Loose Road, Maidstone, has however gone from strength to strength in spite of all the remifications following the closure of Chambers of Rochester limited, and the aforementioned family dispute.
